Mark Cohen is a street photographer. His fellows at work are Robert Frank, William Klein, Lee Friedlander and William Eggleston. Actually, you can tell that he belongs to the same school, right ? Beyond the stances those photographers take, there is the idea to get closer to the subject. Therefore, Cohen chose to photograph exclusively in and around his hometown Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
True Color are photos shot in the late 1970’s. They have been printed recently as color dye transfers and are shown at the Hasted Hunt gallery for the first time in New York. Worth seeing it, especially because Mark Cohen is not as known as the others photographers.

The gallery displays also an exhibition on NYC. Among the photos chosen, one is signed Bruce Davidson : black & white, end of the day, almost night, the statue of liberty is far, the torch is lighted, at the forefront a lighted street lamp. The image is so simple but incredibly moving. I couldn’t find it on Internet. I would then, warmly, recommend to stop over the gallery during the upcoming week-end. RB
