Gil Scott Heron at SOB’s

gil-scott-heron-the-revolution-will-not-be-televisedTonight the soul funky poet number 1, Gil Scott Heron, will perform at SOB’s. Today is Martin Luther King Day for which Gil Scott Heron fought for.

Scott Heron is a political activist for the civil rights since ever. This comitment lead him to write words and music. Actually beautiful art. He wrote deep thoughts wrapped on music that would make you dance or cry. He is now a broken man. It feels that he has to fight to keep on living as if his sense of life has been weakened, as if his beliefs were knocked. Tall and skinny he looks like a leaf. Sometimes, on stage, it’s really sad to watch him but each time there is a moment where the magic takes over and the experience starts to be intense. I would definitely suggest to go and  see him tonight. He has two shows at 7.30 and 9.30pm. Know, he is always super late. RB

I’m new here, his new record just came out. The first in 13 years !

Another great post and obviously great taste. GSH, like Keith Richards should have been dead by now but they probably both sealed a pact with some dark forces who keep them alive and will get their souls back one day (hopefully not too soon). Unfortunately GSH is a shadow of his former-self and is indeed a broken man. I would recommend everyone to see the film/documentary “Blackwax” subtitled “The most dangerous musician alive” to really understand his roots and his art when he was still “unbroken”. He would have probably wrote “the revolution will not be twiterrized” these days!
Last but not least, if you like good groovy music, I would recommend everyone to check the “Slavic Soul Party” every Tuesday @ Barbes (6th Av/9th St.) in Brooklyn. Tiny place but this eclectic musical mix, performed by joyful and skilled musos, is indeed very soulful and will get your ass do a peaceful revolution. RL
