The MTA has released a new subway APP for Ipad and Ipad touch devices.  At the moment, we are not sure if this also includes iPads, but we assume so.  The new app will show not only locations but real time arrivals of trains on the A Division, which are Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 lines, along with the 42nd Street Shuttle. Unfortunately, these are the only lines that have updated technology in the rails themselves to support real time updates. Bummer. If you use those lines regularly, this is a very cool app. If not, you'll just have to go down in the tubes and wait for the rush of air and squeal of brakes.

Corporate housing and vacation rentals

There are a variety of corporate housing and vacation rental providers in NYC. If you are unsure if you want to live in the city, we suggest that your rent a place for a week or so to give it the city a whirl. With that in mind, here are the top 3 providers.

Furnishquarters.com
Furnished Quarters provides upscale corporate housing through out the prime Manhattan neighborhoods. They have studios up through 3 bedrooms. Prices vary from as do the length of your stay. The minimum shor term rentals they offer are one month.

TempApts.com
Temp Apts is now promoting itself as a ABA - Alternative Business Accommodation company. Their rates are as follows.
Studio $4800 - $5700/month
1 Bedroom $5250 - $7500/month
2 Bedroom $7500 - $10,500/month

Temp Apts also requires a minimum of 30 days.

VacationHomeRentals.com - New York City
This website services the entire world and provided direct owner-renter interactions. Though we have never used this service, we have heard good things about from a variety of friends who have rented their properties for short-term. Check out the site and you'll find a number of opportunities and price ranges including one week rentals.

*If the short term rental prices for Manhattan are to steep for our budget, be sure to explore the surrounding metro area such as Brooklyn, Queens, and NJ. The short-term prices in those area translate more fairly to the real monthly rental prices of unfurnished apartments in NYC.

Since the recession, foreclosures in NYC have fluctuated accordingly. Before jumping into the foreclosure market place, it might be wise to learn more from a professional. To that end, we found this book over on Amazon, which has 76 reviews, and, seemingly, is very useful and informative. Though, with in the reviews section there seems to be a debate as to the legitimacy of the reviews themselves.
